Not a Stick! – Nursery

This week the children have been listening to stories and engaging in activities relating to our topic ‘sticks’. They enjoyed the story ‘Stickman’. Stickman lives in the family tree with his family, but it’s dangerous being a Stickman. A dog wants to play with him, a swan builds her nest with him and he even ends up on a fire! Will he ever get back to the family tree? The children used a variety of sticks in different ways to recreate some of the things Stickman was used as throughout the story.
After listening to the story ‘Not a stick’ children used their imagination to think of objects a stick could also be such as, hobby horse, broomstick, sword, toothbrush, walking stick etc… Can you use your imagination to think of any more? We would love to know your ideas!

The children also enjoyed looking for, touching and playing with the ice they found around the outdoor environment. They then wondered why their hands were freezing cold!

During free play we used the outdoor equipment to build an obstacle course and experimented with different ways to get across it.  We’ve also enjoyed using the iPads independently.

  1. What about using the stick as a magic wand? Oliver often picks up sticks when we are out walking and pretends that they are strimmers or leaf blowers!
